Leaders Can Be Surprising

"How many legs does a dog have if you call his tail a leg?"

"Four. Saying that a tail is a leg doesn't make it a leg." Abraham Lincoln

Wow that exchange surprised me, caught my attention, and shifted my perception from blue sky thinking to pragmatism. I laughed, and then I took a moment to reflect and breathe in the possibilities of that exchange.

Sometimes a leader must be brave enough to say "No. I'm not going to pretend." How could that stance be applied in a productive, collaborative way?

I'll leave that with you to mull over.
